Watched a lot of Little Einsteins (aka “Pat Pat”), PJ Masks and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse … and sang those theme songs even more often. They are all three part of our bedtime routine.
Had my 15-year high school reunion. I’m not sure how it’s been that long, but it was great catching up with some very special friends that I don’t get to see often enough.
Raised more than $750 for Anna’s Grace Foundation in honor of Griffin. Being a part of Anna’s Grace really has inspired me to remember and celebrate Griffin, and to help others who experience baby loss.
Trained for and ran my first Quarter Marathon and then ran in my first Crescent City Classic a few weeks later.
Watched my fur baby go through another traumatic medical experience when she had emergency spinal cord surgery after becoming paralyzed this summer. She was given a 40% chance of ever walking again even with the surgery. I am happy to say she was back to her normal, adorable pain-in-the-butt self about a month or so after the procedure and walking as if nothing ever happened. She sure is the luckiest unlucky dog I’ve ever met!
Made some really great new friends who have helped this journey called motherhood easier and way more fun.
Spent birthday #33 at the beach with my main men. Learned that taking kids to the beach is way less relaxing than not taking kids to the beach.
Waited in line for more than an hour to get a milkshake, upon which I was told it would be another hour for said milkshake to be made. It was only like 14% worth it.
Went back to the beach with some of my favorite ladies. There were sweaters, bikinis, chocolate-covered popcorn, wine (So much wine!), waffle house shenanigans, lots of laughs, and did I mention wine? (So where exactly are we going???)
Watched Cameron grow a lot in a short time. He is turning into a young man way faster than I can handle.
Took Grant to his first Mardi Gras parade and LSU football game. I look forward to the day when he wants to actually watch either and not just run around in circles/up and down the concourse.
Made several trips to the Aquarium in New Orleans. We really love the penguins!
Celebrated my Mom’s 60th birthday in October. I’m so blessed to have her in my life, and I can’t even begin to describe the kind of grandmother she is to my son.
Pulled off some pretty sweet family costumes -- Pulp Fiction for a party in July, and Phineas and Ferb for Halloween. It's one of our favorite family traditions, and I love how excited the boys get to dress up as a family!
Went to see Counting Crows in Houston. As always, they were incredible. I need more Adam in my life ASAP.
Paid cash for Rob’s new car. It was an incredible feeling driving off the lot with a car that you owe absolutely nothing on. (Thanks Dave Ramsey!)
Called 911 for the first time and also had my first ride in the back of an ambulance to Grant’s first pediatric ER visit last month. Thankfully it turned out to just be a febrile seizure, but as a parent, when your child goes down a slide and doesn’t get up and then you find him having a seizure on the ground, I can assure you it was one of the scariest moments of my life!
Experienced actual legit snow in Baton Rouge for the first time, and to make it even more special I also got to see it from my child’s eyes.
It’s been a busy year with its share of ups and downs, and I’m ready to see the opportunities that 2018 will bring for me and for my family. Happy New Year!
